Ear Tubes Round 2

Rhaegan had ear tubes put in when she was two and they warned us that there was a slight chance she would need them again once the first set fell out. I was hoping age would work in her favor and that her ears would figure out how to function without tubes. Unfortunately I was wrong. She started getting ear infections again last October and didn't go one month from then until now with out an infection in her ears. Her ENT which is actually our Bishop said he felt tubes were the only logical solution. So yesterday (on Shae's 35th birthday) we took our little 6 year old in for the simple surgery.

Even though they tell you the surgery is extremely low in risks and super easy to perform it's still unnerving watching your little girl being wheeled away into the operating room. They gave her some medicine which made her a little loopy before they gave her the gas. It was kind of funny watching her try and color in a coloring book once the medicine started kicking in.

She was super brave which made it a little easier for me to keep the tears from flowing.

The surgery took about 20 minutes and then we were reunited with Rhaegan in the recovery room. This time around there was no screaming and arching of the back when she was waking up which was so nice. She simply opened her eyes and looked at us and said hi mom and dad. I'm so thankful that everything went well and that she should be free of ear pain for a little while.

Here's a Reason

If you are looking for a reason to vaccinate your child/family against the flu, here is one. I know there are lots of people out there who think the flu shot is bogus or not important. If you never get the flu then ok maybe you can say the flu shot isn't necessary but no one can guarantee they won't get the flu so the shot might be your best option. This was the first year I didn't get my kids the flu shot and I am kicking myself. My poor little girl caught the virus and this is what she's looked like for 4 days. Today her fever finally broke but she's still pretty tired and weak. I'll definitely make sure to not forget the shot this coming winter.

p.s. Shae got the virus first and has been down and out for almost a week. I think he'll also think twice about bad-mouthing the flu shot.

Happy Easter

This year Easter was another big hit. It was extra special because Rhaegan and Marlee's Utah cousin got to come up and celebrate with us. The Easter bunny brought some really great treats and then the day ended with a big egg hunt. Besides the fact that Shae had the flu, Marlee Croup and a severe ear infection in Rhaegan we all had a fun day.

Easter dresses are by far my favortie dresses. These are Target specials.

"Present" Day

It was Marlee's birthday this past Friday and let me tell you it was a weekend filled with nothing but fun. Friday morning we had rainbow pancakes with bacon and opened presents. She had been asking about her presents for about 4 days so I was anxious to let her open them so I didn't have to hear about them anymore. We then all got ready for the day and at lunch time headed over to good old McDonalds for some happy meals and Play Place time (Marlee's choice of course).

We then headed over to Wahooz, an indoor fun center where Rhaegan and Marlee both got 20 tokens to try their hand at winning some major tickets (didn't really happen though).

Next was Red Robin for dinner (another Marlee choice). It was a treat from Grandma and Papa Taylor. She got balloons and her very own ice cream sundae. What more could the birthday girl ask for?

Saturday was her little "party" with her cousins. We had a noodle bar with different sauces because noodles are one of the only things Marlee will eat.

The birthday weekend is now over and it's back to real life. We love this little girl and can't believe she's already 3 years old. I was definitely a little sad Friday morning when I woke up and realized my little goose wasn't going to stay little forever. We love you, Marlee and hope you had a great birthday!

Random

This post is pretty random but I wanted to keep my semi-good run of posting weekly. These yummy muffins were my Christmas morning surprise for the family. For those of you who have ever been to the breakfast buffet at Little America in Salt Lake City know about the blueberry muffins they have there. They are divine!! These were of course no where near as good as those, however they still made my mouth water as I peeled the paper back from each one. The recipe was from ourbestbites.com for those of you who want to partake of the delicious goodness.

Our girls have their "time-outs" at the top of the stairs. Marlee can often be found there so I'm fearing she is becoming accustom to the location. One morning as I'm doing a little tidying up I come around the corner to find several of Marlee and Rhaegan's stuffed animals lined up nicely at the top of the stairs. I asked the girls what was going on and their response was, "They were very bad so they have to go to time out. They only have 2 minutes left so please don't talk to them." Well at least they understand the rules behind time-out.

Marlee's First Haircut

We had to make a quick trip to Utah last weekend for Shae's work. When we arrived I decided Marlee needed a haircut so off to Dollar Cuts (owned and operated by Kimmie and Braden) we went.

It's amazing how much thicker her hair seems now that it's short. I think she's going to be my short hair girl!
